At Ayushman Bharat, we are committed to realizing the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as outlined in the National Health Policy 2017. Our flagship initiative, Ayushman Bharat, strives to ensure that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare services.
Our approach transcends traditional healthcare delivery models by embracing a comprehensive, need-based system that encompasses prevention, promotion, and ambulatory care across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Through the two core components of Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) – we aim to revolutionize healthcare accessibility and affordability for all.
PM-JAY, the world’s largest health assurance scheme, provides a substantial health cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. This scheme targets over 12 crores impoverished and vulnerable families, effectively reaching approximately 55 crore beneficiaries. PM-JAY ensures cashless access to healthcare services, mitigating the financial burden of medical treatments that often plunge millions of Indians into poverty annually.
Under PM-JAY, all pre-existing conditions are covered from day one, and there are no restrictions based on family size, age, or gender. Moreover, the benefits are portable across the nation, allowing beneficiaries to seek treatment at any empanelled public or private hospital. With a comprehensive coverage spanning medical consultations, diagnostics, treatments, and post-hospitalization care, PM-JAY aims to alleviate the financial strain on families and facilitate timely access to quality healthcare services.
In addition to PM-JAY, our initiative encompasses the establishment of Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) to deliver Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) closer to communities. These centres cater to maternal and child health services, non-communicable diseases, and provide essential drugs and diagnostic services, fostering a culture of health promotion and prevention.
